The Canadian government announced the imposition of new sanctions on two Iranians whom the Canadian government accused of participating in violence against women in Iran.

Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly stated in this regard that Iranian women face repression

and violence against them to a severe extent; to the point that it exposes Iranian women in Iranian society to danger

and facing injuries and sometimes death as well; all because of women and girls trying to express themselves and demand their basic rights.

She added that Canada imposed sanctions on 155 individuals and 87 entities since the death of the 22-year-old girl Mahsa Amini

in 2022, who died in Iranian police custody after the Iranian police arrested her on charges of not wearing the hijab properly.

Both were added to the sanctions list, which also included both the CEO of Tehran Transport

and one of the senior parliamentarians on the sanctions list; as per more repressive practices and measures.

Joly's office also added that the CEO of Tehran Metro, Masoud Dorosti, imposed the mandatory hijab law in public transportation.

It is noteworthy that an Iranian conservative politician named Zahra Eslahian faces the death penalty and supports the death penalty imposed on protesters participating in a movement called "Women, Life, Freedom."

Joly's office pointed out that those listed on the Canadian sanctions list are banned from entering Canada or conducting any business with Canadians.
