Calgary police are working to identify a woman alleged to be involved in a hate-motivated incident on a Calgary Transit bus earlier this month.
The two victims, both 13-year-old girls, had boarded a bus heading from Somerset-Bridlewood station on its way to Silverado at around 8:30 p.m.
The police say a stranger approached the two girls and began "speaking aggressively" and "shouting racist words" in their faces.
Explaining, "This incident was completely unprovoked and left the young victims in a state of panic and distress."
For his part, traveler Matt said in a press release on Wednesday, "At this time, we believe the victims were racially targeted."
The police said the suspect is described as a 30-year-old woman, 162 cm (5'4") tall and weighing 63 kg (140 lbs) with a slim build and light-colored hair.
At the time, she was wearing a pink shirt, a light brown jacket, dark pants, and sunglasses, and was carrying a large blue bag and a black backpack.
Traveler said, "Harassment against anyone in our city will not be tolerated."
Adding, "All Calgary residents have the right to feel safe in our city while using public transportation."
