The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation expects that the New Democratic Party in British Columbia (BC NDP) will form the next government, thus retaining power.

However, it cannot currently be said whether the left-leaning party led by outgoing Premier David Eby will form a majority or minority government.

The Legislative Assembly in Victoria consists of 93 members, each representing an electoral district. Therefore, at least 47 districts must be won to guarantee the formation of a majority government.

According to the latest election results update from the Elections BC committee, candidates from the New Democratic Party have won in 46 electoral districts out of the 93 that make up the province's electoral map.

In the 'Surrey-Guildford' district in the Greater Vancouver area, NDP candidate and outgoing MLA Gary Beg is ahead of his competitors by just 17 votes against the closest, BC Conservative candidate Honver Singh Randhawa. If Beg wins, he secures a majority government for his party.

The Conservative Party, led by John Rustad, has won in 43 districts and has a candidate in the lead in another district.

Candidates from the Green Party of BC have won in two districts.

The Elections Committee publishes new results every hour, having counted around 22,000 mail-in ballots this morning.

The elections were held in the largest of the four western provinces and the third among Canada's ten provinces in terms of population (home to about 5.7 million people) on Saturday, October 19, following a 28-day election campaign.
