An American woman living in Colorado has filed a lawsuit against "Meta," the parent company of "Facebook," claiming that her 13-year-old daughter has become addicted to this digital platform, according to the British newspaper "Daily Mail."
The mother, named Cecilia Tesch, added that her daughter has been addicted to "Facebook" since she was seven years old, which led to her developing an eating disorder, as well as self-harming, due to her addiction and problematic use of the digital platform.
Self-harm is a symptom of personality disorders, in which a person deliberately injures their body, such as biting and burning, but it does not reach the stage of suicide. The person feels a kind of relief after this act, followed by feelings of guilt and shame, according to the "Mayo Clinic" website.
The mother says her daughter stays awake all night following the successive notifications from "Facebook."
According to the lawsuit, the girl's addiction to the site has led to a decreased interest in other activities and disturbed her sleep because of the "continuous notifications" from the app.
