Officials said at least 44 people were killed and dozens others injured after a fire broke out in a commercial building in the Bangladeshi capital, Dhaka.
Brigadier General Min Uddin, head of the emergency department of the fire and civil defense service, told reporters at the scene that the fire broke out in a seven-story building housing several restaurants and clothing shops on the main Bailey Road in Dhaka on Thursday evening.
He added that firefighters retrieved the bodies, most of whom were restaurant patrons, from the building after taking more than three hours to extinguish the fire.
