London police announced today, Sunday, that the driver who crashed into the gates of Buckingham Palace was arrested on suspicion of committing criminal damage.
The Metropolitan Police said the incident, which occurred early Saturday morning, is not considered related to terrorism and no one was hurt.
Armed officers arrested the driver and detained him under the Mental Health Act after being taken to the hospital. He has since been released on bail.
A metal fence was placed in front of the palace entrance and the gates were closed on Sunday as tourists passed by in the rain.
The police said they are investigating the circumstances of the incident.
