The advance voting process for the legislative elections in Alberta province started on Tuesday. It will continue until Saturday, May 27.
At least one advance polling station will be opened each day in every one of the 87 electoral districts.
Advance polling stations will generally be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
During the five days of advance voting, voters can go to any advance polling station to vote.
According to the website of Elections Alberta, "Advance voting is usually conducted in shopping centers, community centers, libraries, work camps, universities, and other public buildings."
It will also be possible to vote on May 29, the official election day.
Voting conditions
To vote in provincial elections, the voter must be a Canadian citizen, be at least 18 years old, and reside in Alberta.
They must also be able to prove their identity to election officials by showing a document bearing their full name, an official photo, and their address.
Thus, people who wish to vote can present their driver's license or their identity card, which contains these three pieces of information.
They can also present many other documents, such as a Canadian passport, social insurance card, lease agreement, or utility bills.
Measures for vulnerable people and those evacuated due to fires
In the coming days, Elections Alberta staff will visit nearly 700 senior residences, long-term care homes, hospitals, and shelters to help more people exercise their right to vote.
The authority has put in place some measures to allow people living in communities evacuated due to forest and tree fires to vote. In particular, they can go to the office of the returning officer of their electoral district.
