Premier Jason Kenney began Thursday the first day of Alberta Day annual launch.
Kenney spoke at the Alberta Legislature grounds on Thursday morning: "We believe Alberta deserves to be celebrated, and it is worth taking a moment to pause and express gratitude and appreciation for the vision and sacrifices of those who came before us."
The inaugural Alberta Day was announced in July. The government said the date, September 1st, was chosen to celebrate the anniversary of the day Alberta joined the confederation in 1905.
While Alberta Day is held this year on Thursday, most official events are planned for the weekend, including a Brett Kissel performance at 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the Legislature grounds.
