A source said that Air Canada Cargo was handling high-value goods worth $20 million that were stolen under mysterious circumstances from Toronto Pearson Airport.

A source familiar with the investigation told CTV News Toronto on Friday that the goods were unloaded from an Air Canada plane that landed at the airport on Monday evening.

The source added that the goods were in the possession of the airline's cargo operations when they disappeared.

A spokesperson for Air Canada told CTV News Toronto on Friday that they "have no information to provide," and directed all inquiries to the Peel Regional Police.

Authorities also announced on Thursday the theft of $20 million worth of gold and other high-value goods in a robbery that left the police with few leads. The theft occurred at a cargo facility at the airport.

The police did not name any suspects and indicated that they do not know who is responsible for the theft.

"According to standard procedures, the plane was unloaded and the goods were transferred from the plane to the cargo facility," said Stephen Duivesteyn on Thursday.

Duivesteyn added that after the shipment was secured in the holding facility, it was removed "by unlawful means," continuing: "This is very rare, we spent three days, so our investigators are keeping their eyes open on all fronts."

Toronto Pearson Airport Authority also confirmed to CTV News Toronto on Thursday that "thieves accessed the public side of a third-party leased warehouse, outside the primary security line": "This did not include access to Toronto Pearson itself and did not pose a threat to passengers or GTAA staff."
