Yesterday, Global Affairs Canada in Ottawa stated that a seventh Canadian was killed in the ongoing conflict between Israel and the Palestinian Hamas movement, but it did not provide further details regarding his identity or the circumstances surrounding his death.
“Global Affairs Canada is providing support to seven Canadian families of individuals who lost their lives in the current conflict, as well as to the families of two missing Canadians,” the ministry stated in a press release.
The sudden attack by Hamas fighters from the Gaza Strip on southern Israel on October 7 resulted in the deaths of more than 1,400 people, mostly civilians, according to Israeli authorities, while the subsequent Israeli strikes on the Gaza Strip have resulted in the deaths of over 7,000 people, also mostly civilians, including about 3,000 children, according to the health ministry of the Hamas government.
Hamas fighters took around 220 people hostage to the Gaza Strip, and the Islamist movement has released four of them so far.
Hamas also announced that 50 of these hostages were killed in the Israeli bombardment of the Gaza Strip.
