The United States and India agreed on Thursday to resolve six disputes between them at the World Trade Organization, according to a statement by Washington following a meeting between U.S. President Joe Biden and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The U.S. Trade Representative's office added in a statement that India also agreed to "remove retaliatory tariffs" on some American products such as chickpeas, lentils, and almonds.

The announcement also came during a state visit by the Indian Prime Minister to the United States, and the two countries also reached agreements on fighter jet engines, investment in semiconductors, and space cooperation.

India had imposed tariffs in response to similar U.S. measures on steel and aluminum, and the U.S. Trade Representative's office said in a statement that "these tariff reductions will restore and expand market opportunities for American agricultural producers and manufacturers."

U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai said, "Today's agreement represents the culmination of intense bilateral work over the past two years."

Among the six disputes at the World Trade Organization, the United States initiated three of them while India initiated the other three disputes.

The U.S. statement also said the disputes involve measures concerning solar cells and solar modules in the renewable energy sector, as well as measures related to steel and aluminum products.
