Today (Saturday), the Supreme Council of the Union unanimously elected Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan as President of the United Arab Emirates, during its meeting at Al Mushrif Palace in Abu Dhabi, chaired by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the State, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai.
The meeting was attended by Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, Sheikh Hamid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ajman, Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Fujairah, Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mualla, member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Umm Al Quwain, and Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid said in a tweet, “Mohammed bin Zayed is the shadow of Zayed and his extension within us, the founder of our state's centennial, and the protector of the sanctity of our union. We congratulate him, pledge allegiance to him, our people pledge allegiance to him, and the entire country submits to him to lead it in paths of glory, honor, and prosperity.”

A statement issued by the Ministry of Presidential Affairs mentioned that under Article 51 of the Constitution, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan was unanimously elected President of the United Arab Emirates, succeeding the late Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The Sheikhs, members of the Supreme Council of the Union, affirmed their deep commitment to upholding the authentic values and principles established by the late, which he derived from the founder Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, which cemented the UAE's stature at both regional and global levels and strengthened its various national achievements.
The council expressed its full confidence that the people of the UAE will remain, as Zayed and the founders always wanted, a faithful guardian of the union and its gains at all levels, praying to Almighty God to grant Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan success and guide his steps in serving his homeland and the people of the UAE.

For his part, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan expressed his appreciation for the precious trust bestowed upon him by his brothers, the Sheikhs, members of the Supreme Council of the Union, the rulers of the Emirates, asking Almighty God to grant him success and help him bear the responsibility of this great trust and fulfill its duty in serving his homeland and the people of the UAE.
