After the poor performance shown by the Qatar national team on its home ground against the Ecuadorian team in the opening of the 2022 World Cup, the English team ended the first half leading their Iranian counterpart 3-0, at Khalifa International Stadium, as part of the first round in Group B of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The goals were scored by Jude Bellingham with a wonderful header to the left of the goalkeeper, Saka with a left-footed shot, and Raheem Sterling.
This half witnessed absolute superiority for England, as the Iranian crossbar denied the English defender Harry Maguire a goal from a great header.
Iranian goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand suffered a serious injury, forcing him to leave the field in the 17th minute, with substitute goalkeeper Hossein Hosseini entering instead, and the referee counted 14 minutes of added time in the first half.
The Iranian team appeared weak throughout the match except for two counter-attacks that Iranian players did not make good use of.
The first half showed the superiority of the English players in preparation, offensive strategy, good organization, and ball passing among players compared to the Iranian team, which appeared as a shaky defense.
