CBC News revealed that Ahmed Al-Didi (62 years old) and his son Mustafa Al-Didi (27 years old), who previously resided in the Scarborough area of East Toronto, are facing new charges of committing war crimes outside of Canada, along with charges of conspiracy to carry out an attack inspired by ISIS within the country.
Details of the crimes:
The indictment reviewed by the network indicates that Ahmed Al-Didi is charged with war crimes including:
• Murder.
• Desecration of corpses.
• Torture.
• Violation of human dignity.
Investigations indicate that these crimes took place abroad between November 2014 and June 2015, prior to his arrival in Canada and obtaining Canadian citizenship last May.
Investigations and the attack plan:
Ahmed Al-Didi and his son were arrested last July on charges of conspiracy to commit murder and support ISIS. Authorities stated that the men were in the advanced stages of planning a "dangerous and violent" attack targeting the Jewish community in Toronto.
Legal reactions:
Both Ahmed Al-Didi and his son Mustafa denied the charges against them, and their lawyers confirmed their intention to defend their innocence in court.
