The "Çekmeköy" cycling team attracted attention with its outfit in a local race in Istanbul through its design that featured the Turkish and Palestinian flags, in solidarity with Gaza, which is under Israeli genocide.
The team, which has previously participated in the Tour de France, designed a special outfit for the team that displays the Turkish flag on the front and the Palestinian flag on the back, to draw attention to the tragedy experienced by the Palestinians in Gaza.
Omar Lotfi Soylu, a member of the team, noted that the Palestinian cause is a humanitarian issue, and they are working to bring attention to it around the world.
According to Soylu, his team climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, which stands at 5,895 meters, three months ago to highlight the humanitarian tragedy in Palestine.
He said, "We saw this race as an opportunity to draw attention. As a team, we designed these jerseys. We hope our message gets across."
He added, "We need something to tell our grandchildren about what we did regarding the tragedy in Palestine (...) that's why we need to do something for humanity, to do something to stop the genocide and not to regret it in the future, and we will continue these activities."
Soylu conveyed the positive reaction from Turkish citizens regarding the jersey design and their desire to obtain them.
