The French newspaper Le Figaro said that Rishi Sunak could be the first British Prime Minister of Indian origin, succeeding the resigning Prime Minister Liz Truss. Le Figaro added that Sunak announced today, Sunday, his candidacy to run for the position of Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, indicating that his chances of winning are high unless complicated by the strong return of Boris Johnson to compete for the position. Also, Le Figaro clarified that Sunak received the support of 100 Conservative parliamentarians to compete within the party. Sunak also competed for the same position this summer after Johnson's resignation, but he lost to Liz Truss, who won 57% of the votes, compared to 43% for him. In his confrontation with Johnson, the French newspaper mentioned that Rishi will play the card of experience, seriousness in performance and planning, and the ability to restore "economic credibility" that the Conservatives lost during the past period. Also, according to Le Figaro, the politician's image was affected by some troubles after it was revealed that his wealthy wife, Akshata Murty, earned millions because she benefited from a tax privilege on the grounds that she was non-resident in the UK, while she was residing in London, and it was revealed that Sunak himself held a US "green card" while he was a minister. The newspaper stated that Sunak was born in 1980 in Southampton, UK, to a middle-class family where his father worked as a doctor and his mother was a pharmacist. In the same context, Sunak studied Philosophy, Politics, and Economics at Oxford University before completing his studies at Stanford University in the US. Le Figaro says that Rishi Sunak always expresses pride in his Indian origins and has previously stated clarifying this, "I am British, Britain is my home and my country, but my cultural heritage is Indian, my wife is Indian, and I am Indian." In addition, Sunak is considered one of those who led the campaign to leave the European Union, and because of that, Boris Johnson brought him closer, making Rishi one of his prominent supporters afterwards.
