Prime Minister Justin Trudeau issued a statement today on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr saying:
"When the new crescent moon first appears, Muslims in Canada and around the world celebrate Eid al-Fitr marking the end of the blessed month of Ramadan."
Adding, Eid al-Fitr, also known as the Feast of Breaking the Fast, is one of the most important holidays in Islamic faith.
Explaining that it is an opportunity for families and friends to spend enjoyable time together, worship as a community, and give charity.
It is also a time to show generosity, gratitude, and compassion – core values at the heart of Islam.
The Prime Minister also said, "On this day, we acknowledge the valuable contributions that Muslim communities in Canada have made and continue to make to this country."
Explaining, "Cultural diversity in Canada is one of our greatest strengths and sources of pride."
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau concluded the statement by congratulating the Muslim community in Canada and Muslims around the world saying, "On behalf of my family, Sophie and I wish a happy and blessed Eid al-Fitr to all those celebrating this occasion.
Eid Mubarak!"
