The Algerian Ministry of Interior announced the death of 34 people, including 10 military personnel, and the injury of 26 others due to the fires that have engulfed 16 states so far.
The judicial authorities in the country have also ordered an investigation into the causes of the forest fires and to identify those responsible.
A previous statement from the Algerian interior indicated the death of 15 people and the injury of 26 others in an initial toll, while more than 1500 people have been evacuated from the affected areas.
According to the interior statement, the Algerian authorities deployed 8,000 civil defense personnel and allocated 529 trucks along with 10 mobile columns coming from unaffected states to participate in rescue and extinguishing operations in 11 northern states.
Algeria had witnessed in August 2021 the most severe wave of fires that occurred in the northeast of the country, leading to the death of 28 military personnel who lost their lives while participating in rescue and extinguishing operations, as well as 37 civilians who perished in these fires.
