The Russian airline "Volga-Dnepr," the largest Russian cargo airline, has filed a lawsuit against the Canadian government to challenge the sanctions previously imposed on it.
The "Wall Street Journal" reported that the Russian company filed a lawsuit before the Canadian Federal Court in November to cancel the restrictive measures imposed by Ottawa against the company.
The Canadian government had placed the Russian cargo company on the sanctions list last April, while Canadian authorities illegally detained the company's "An-124" aircraft in February 2022. In June 2023, the country's government expressed its intention to seize the aircraft and transfer it to Ukraine.
The An-124 transport aircraft of the "Volga-Dnepr" airline had arrived in Canada carrying a shipment of COVID tests from China after being leased by the Canadian government, arriving in Toronto on February 27, 2022, just two hours before Canadian authorities closed the airspace to Russian flights due to the situation in Ukraine.
