Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau issued the following statement today on Ramadan:
"Tomorrow, Muslims in Canada and around the world will observe the beginning of the month of Ramadan.
Adding, “It is well known that Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Islam, this spiritual journey that lasts for a month is a time of fasting, charity, and prayer.”
Explaining, “That at the end of each day, families and friends traditionally gather to enjoy iftar - the meal that breaks the fast at sunset.”
Adding, “Ramadan is a special time to show gratitude for the many blessings we share, and to reflect on the values of peace, compassion, and generosity.”
The Prime Minister said in his statement, “These same values have helped us all through the difficult times over the past two years, and will continue to help us as we recover from the pandemic and look forward with optimism and hope.”
Explaining, “Ramadan is also an opportunity to recognize the many contributions that Muslim Canadians have made and continue to make to our country.”
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also said, “Every day, Muslims help build a better Canada by giving back to those less fortunate through contributions of zakat, volunteering to serve important causes, and through their ongoing kind acts towards their communities and neighbors.”
The Prime Minister concluded his statement by saying, "On behalf of myself and my family, Sophie and I wish all those who celebrate a blessed and peaceful Ramadan.
