Health trends related to the virus in the region indicate general stability or a significant decline, with 4 deaths reported today.
The level of virus detected in Ottawa's wastewater has been decreasing very slowly for nearly a week.
In the same context, the latest statistics reported that 11 Ottawa residents are in local hospitals receiving treatment for COVID-19, according to the OPH update on Tuesday. This number generally ranged between 10 and 20 for more than two weeks.
There are two patients in intensive care, and they are in stable condition.
Testing strategies have changed under the contagious Omicron variant, meaning many COVID-19 cases are not reflected in the current numbers. Public health tracks and reports cases occurring only in healthcare settings.
On Tuesday, the Ministry of Public Health reported 20 additional cases, along with three other deaths of residents in their seventies or eighties. There have been 29 reported COVID deaths in Ottawa this month and a total of 810 deaths.
Tests and vaccines
At about seven percent, the average positivity rate in Ottawa for those who underwent PCR tests outside of long-term care is stable. The overall average is five percent, which means a slow decline.
As of the weekly update on Monday, 92 percent of Ottawa residents aged five and older have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, and 89 percent of those eligible have received two doses.
The percentage of the population aged 12 and older who have received a third dose is 63 percent, while 10 percent of this age group have received four doses.
Across the region
Wastewater levels in the Kingston area and the counties of Leeds, Grenville, and Lanark have been stable or declining.
In Western Quebec, there are about 50 hospital admissions due to coronavirus, including patients no longer considered active cases. This is a slight decrease from last week's number.
In the same context, communities in Eastern Ontario outside Ottawa reported about 35 hospital admissions due to COVID-19, including about five in intensive care in stable condition.
Renfrew County reported its forty-ninth death on Tuesday, the first in nearly three weeks.
Regarding vaccines, about 5.4 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered to people in the Ottawa Gatineau area.
