The Israeli National Security Council issued an urgent warning on Wednesday, urging Israeli citizens to leave the "Arogam Bay" area and the coastal regions in southern and western Sri Lanka immediately, following updated information regarding potential terrorist threats targeting tourist areas.
The Israeli council raised the threat level in the mentioned areas to level four, the highest warning grade, which includes the cities of Ahangama, Galle, Hikkaduwa, and Weligama, according to a correspondent from Al-Hurra in Tel Aviv.
The council recommended that citizens present in these areas leave immediately and either head to the capital Colombo, where there is a significant security presence, or leave the country entirely.
Regarding other regions of Sri Lanka, the threat level has been raised to level three, with a recommendation for Israeli citizens to postpone any non-essential travel to the country.
The council issued a set of precautionary instructions for Israelis present in Sri Lanka, including avoiding showing any signs of Israeli identity in public places, refraining from gathering in public areas without adequate security protection, and immediately contacting local security authorities in case of any suspicious activity.
The council confirmed that Israeli security agencies are working in full coordination with Sri Lankan authorities to closely monitor security developments.
