The Canadian Ministry of Health announced the recall of some Tums antacid tablets due to potential contamination with fragments of fiberglass, paper, aluminum flakes, and other materials.
The federal agency also stated on its website that the manufacturer GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) Consumer Healthcare initiated the product recall. These are peppermint tablets sold in a pack of three rolls, each containing 12 tablets. They were distributed across Canada starting October 25 and have an expiration date of August 2027.
The Canadian Ministry of Health also stated that the fragments will pass through the digestive system if the tablets are consumed, but elderly people and those with narrowed areas in their intestines due to illness or surgery may be at risk of injury.
Any questions regarding the recall should be directed to GSK Consumer Healthcare at 1-905-507-7000 or ca.chquality•haleon.com
For the record, Tums antacids are used to relieve heartburn and indigestion.
