The Ontario government is providing over $1.7 million through the Homelessness Social Services Fund (HSSF) to help create nine affordable housing units in Danville that will assist people experiencing mental health and addiction issues.
The True Experience residential project is located on Elizabeth Crescent East, and each home consists of three private bedrooms, a living room, kitchen, and bathroom. All homes also have their own private walkway, a fenced backyard, and a shared laundry room. The basement of each home will be renovated to accommodate a shared recreation room, bathroom, and kitchenette.
For his part, Assistant Deputy Minister Michael Parsa said: "Our government's policies have achieved unprecedented results in allowing more housing to be built quickly to create community housing and supportive housing. We continue our efforts to increase access for vulnerable individuals or those experiencing homelessness to mental health and addiction support services. Community and supportive housing are key elements of our commitment to building 1.5 million new homes by 2031 to ensure all Ontario residents, especially the most vulnerable, have housing that meets their needs and fits their budget.”
The Ontario government is also investing an additional $25 million annually in its new homelessness prevention program. Moreover, this new program streamlines operational activities so that municipal service managers can spend less time on administrative tasks and more time with their clients, finding housing and other support services, and helping people at risk of homelessness to stay in their homes. This additional funding raises Ontario’s total annual program investment to nearly $464 million.
