Former U.S. President Donald Trump said yesterday, Friday, that he will not end his 2024 presidential campaign even if his conviction is confirmed and he is sentenced on several charges against him.
Trump spoke in an interview on the John Fredericks radio show a day after federal prosecutors expanded the scope of the investigation into the case against him regarding his handling of classified documents after leaving the presidency.
A court document published the day before yesterday, Thursday, included charges against Trump that he attempted to erase surveillance camera footage from his residence in Florida to avoid it falling into the hands of investigators.
Trump and two of his aides are facing charges that they asked an employee at the residence "to delete the surveillance camera footage from Mar-a-Lago to avoid handing over these images" to the judiciary.
Trump's campaign team stated in a press release that these new accusations are "just another endless attempt" by Joe Biden's administration "to harass" his predecessor. The statement added that special prosecutor Jack Smith, who is handling the case, "knows there is nothing in the file."
Trump has previously claimed he is not guilty, and last week a judge set May 20, 2024, as the date for the start of the trial, which is the first for a former president.
