Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced on Tuesday that the federal government will establish a "$300 million fund" to help Atlantic Canadians rebuild after the destructive Storm Fiona, which damaged homes, businesses, bridges, airports, and other infrastructure. Trudeau said on Tuesday: "This funding will support projects to repair and rebuild vital infrastructure damaged by storms such as harbor docks, support cleaning fishing equipment so boats can sail safely again, and of course help businesses and local communities to rebuild and recover. The fund will also provide "up to an additional $300 million over two years, starting this year," according to the government, with the funds to be managed through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) in coordination with the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Quebec Regions (CED) as well as other relevant departments.

Also, the federal government has not yet announced details on how this funding will be allocated, except for the minister responsible for ACOA, Ginette Petitpas Taylor, who told reporters that while some details still need to be worked out, "the money will be available." Under the Disaster Financial Assistance Arrangements (DFAA), up to 90 percent of eligible provincial expenses following a disaster are covered, such as transportation, emergency food and shelter, and replacement of uninsured property.
