The new Trudeau government consists of 38 ministers, 19 women and 19 men, noting that the new cabinet reshuffle in Ottawa affected at least 23 ministers, with 7 MPs joining the government and 7 ministers leaving.
Today, Wednesday, the Canadian Prime Minister and leader of the Liberal Party of Canada, Justin Trudeau, introduced the new cabinet members. After mixing things up and making several changes, he excluded 7 ministers from his government.
Ministers of the Atlantic provinces:
The six ministers from the Atlantic provinces in eastern Canada remained in Justin Trudeau's government. Minister Dominic LeBlanc was promoted and tasked with the Public Safety portfolio while retaining the position of Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs.
Meanwhile, Minister Ginette Petitpas Taylor moved from the Official Languages Ministry to the Ministry of Veterans Affairs and also became Assistant Minister of National Defence.
Minister Sean Fraser became Minister of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities, having previously been responsible for Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship.
In addition to retaining her role as Minister of Rural Economic Development, Minister Judy Hutchings also became Minister responsible for the Canadian Economic Development Agency for the Atlantic provinces.
Furthermore, Minister Seamus O'Regan retained his position as Minister of Labour and also acquired the Ministry of Seniors.
Minister Lawrence MacAulay, who has been a Member of Parliament since 1988, transitioned from the Veterans Affairs portfolio to the Agriculture portfolio.
It is also noted that among the victims of the cabinet reshuffle was Treasury Board President Mona Fortier, who had held the position since October 2021. She was succeeded in the position by Minister Anita Anand.
Also, MP for Kanata-Carleton, Jenna Sudds, became Minister of Families, Children and Social Development. Additionally, MP Thuy D. Martinez, of Chilean origin, became Minister of Tourism.
The new Trudeau government held its first meeting this afternoon just hours after the swearing-in ceremony.
