Travelers traveling between Toronto and Montreal now have fewer options for the winter after WestJet temporarily suspended service between the two cities.
However, WestJet spokesperson Madison Kruger said the route will return in April.
Kruger also stated in an email, "The WestJet group remains extremely committed to Eastern Canada."
He added that WestJet is working to increase its presence in Eastern Canada through more non-stop flights to Western Canada, "in addition to providing more affordable leisure and sun travel opportunities across Canada."
WestJet also announced at the end of September that it would integrate the Sunwing Airlines budget into the main WestJet brand. WestJet acquired Toronto-based Sunwing in May.
This is not the first time WestJet has reduced eastern routes in the past year. In May, WestJet cut its flights between Ottawa and Toronto to one daily flight at 5:30 PM.
Additionally, in 2022, direct flights between Ottawa and Halifax were suspended in the fall, and there were no winter flights outside destinations like Charlottetown, Fredericton, and Quebec City.
