Ottawa - The committee examining the unprecedented use of emergency powers by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will hear from Trudeau himself, as well as many members of his government, bureaucrats, and Ottawa city officials.
The Public Order Emergency Commission, chaired by Commissioner Paul Rouleau, will begin hearings on Thursday, starting up to six weeks of testimony from all involved in the use of the law, including Freedom Convoy leaders and the police.
Trudeau will testify, as well as Minister of Defence Anita Anand, Minister of Public Safety Marco Mendicino, Minister of Emergency Preparedness Bill Blair, Minister of Transport Omar Alghabra, Minister of Justice David Lametti, Minister of International Affairs Dominic LeBlanc, and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland. A full range of senior bureaucrats will also testify, as well as senior ranks from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Public Security Police, and Windsor Police.
Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson and several city council members are also scheduled to testify, along with Ottawa police officers. Several convoy leaders, including Pat King, Tom Marazzo, Chris Barber, and Tamara Lich, are also set to testify. The committee has a deadline until next February to report on the use of the law.
