John Herdman, the head coach of the Canadian national team, spoke about Alfonso Davies' readiness, the Bayern Munich player, for the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
Herdman said in statements carried by "The Athletic" newspaper: "Bayern has done its utmost to prepare Davies, we told them we do not want to risk him, these are three matches we must prepare for, if he is not ready for the first match, we will not risk him."
He added: "We were able to perform well when Alfonso was out of the team, it's not something I lose sleep over, we must handle this correctly because it could be a long tournament for Canada, and the last thing I want is to lose Alfonso."
He continued: "Alfonso is really excited, he is progressing very quickly, but he has not yet reached that top speed."
The Canadian national team is in Group F, alongside Belgium, Croatia, and Morocco, and the first match for the team returning to the World Cup will be against Belgium next Wednesday.
