Six people, including five children and one adult, were taken to the hospital after a school bus, loaded with students, overturned north of Calgary.

Police asked drivers to avoid part of Highway 2A near Didsbury, Alta., this Monday morning after the incident.

Alberta Health Services (AHS) stated that there were no fatalities resulting from the incident, but several individuals were sent to the hospital.

Emergency medical services also confirmed that six people sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Three of the children are receiving medical care in Didsbury, while two others and one adult were transported to hospitals in Calgary.

Police said in a press release that nine students and teachers were on the bus at the time of the collision.

Officials also confirmed to CTV News this Monday that all students and staff were part of the Rocky View School Division.

Rocky View Schools stated in a statement that the students and staff on the bus were from George McDougall High School in Airdrie, Alta.

They were on their way to Olds, Alta, for a field trip when the incident occurred.

The school administration also said that families of those on the bus have been notified.

It is believed that road conditions contributed to the incident, but police said the cause is still under investigation.

Didsbury police also mentioned that they were still at the scene around 1:30 PM, and the road is expected to be closed for another three to four hours.

The town of Didsbury is located about 80 kilometers north of Calgary.
