The police said they arrested 17 people and seven officers were injured after a violent night at Toronto's "Woodbine" beach, which witnessed shootings of two people, stabbing of one person, robbery of two others at gunpoint, and street fights involving fireworks until Sunday evening.

Videos posted on social media showed groups of people shooting (fireworks) at each other, physical fights, and crowds spilling into the streets.

The CP24 crew witnessed several incidents at the beach on Sunday night where people were shooting fireworks from cars at people and other vehicles.

They said the area was so chaotic that they could not set up a tripod and start broadcasting.

Inspector "Geoff Passey" said seven officers were injured, one of whom broke his leg while chasing a shooting suspect,

"Passey" said they are investigating a shooting incident that eventually led to two people being hospitalized, along with a separate stabbing on the beach and two armed robberies within a few hours.

One of the victims was found at the scene while the other made their way to the hospital. A total of 17 people have been arrested so far, with more expected.

Toronto police told CP24 they are investigating several additional incidents reported to them since Sunday but could not comment on any specific case until they have more information.

Toronto Mayor "John Tory" thanked the police in a statement, describing the lawbreakers as "rioters." "This is completely unacceptable behavior, and I support the police in doing everything they can to protect people and keep people safe.

I discussed with TPS Chief "Ramer" this morning what additional steps can be taken to reduce the presence of fireworks on our beaches and maintain security." "Despite these riots, officers were able to make arrests and ensure legal consequences for those who break the law.

I am grateful for the strong police presence and the work they have done under difficult circumstances." The police said on Monday they will be on site with municipal law enforcement to patrol the area. Passey said, "A number of police officers will be present in the area to secure people.
