Three schools in Toronto were locked down, and two are in hold and secure status after reports of a man carrying a rifle walking near Maberley Crescent and Oxhorn Road in Port Union.

Toronto police said the calls came shortly before 1 p.m. today, Thursday.

The police said they located the man, described as being in his late teens or early twenties, wearing a white hat and a three-quarter length coat.

According to police tweets, officers were at the scene and "discharged" a firearm and shot the suspect.

The police said the suspect was injured and paramedics are at the scene.

William G. Davis Junior Public School, Joseph Howe Senior Public School, Charlottetown Junior Public School, and Sir Oliver Mowat Collegiate Institute have been locked down.

Charlottetown Junior Public School was previously closed but has since moved to hold and secure status along with Centennial Road Junior Public School, according to tweets from the Toronto District School Board.

The Toronto District School Board (TDSB) says that today continues as usual inside the school, but as a precautionary measure, the exterior doors are locked, and no one can come in or leave the building.
