Toronto police said an off-duty police officer was seriously stabbed in the wrist while trying to stop a robbery at a retail store in Scarborough on Wednesday (December 6).

Chris McCann, a spokesperson for the Toronto Police Service, said the officer is in stable condition but will need surgery. He added that the police are looking for three suspects who attacked the officers and robbed the store.

McCann also said that paramedics in Toronto responded quickly and placed a tourniquet on the injured officer's wrist, and he was then transported to the hospital.

According to the police, at about 11:45 a.m., three suspects entered a retail store on Progress Road (near McCowan Road) to steal merchandise. An off-duty police officer tried to stop the suspects outside the store, and one of them stabbed him in the wrist.

The three suspects then fled the scene in a gray Sienna vehicle, last seen traveling north on Brimley Road then west on Highway 401.

The first suspect is described as a male, six feet tall, medium build, wearing black pants and shoes. The second suspect is a male wearing a black mask, blue jeans, and a black jacket. The third suspect is a woman with long dark hair, wearing gray overalls and a camouflaged jacket.

Toronto police said they are looking for the three suspects, and anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage is asked to contact the police as soon as possible.
