Wimbledon officials have increased security and will also use behavior detection officers in an attempt to prevent environmental protests during the tennis championship that began today, Monday.

The perfectly trimmed green lawns with pristine white lines are the global image of the tournament, and the possibility of someone spraying orange powder, the trademark of protesters who have invaded other major sporting events, is something the tournament organizers strongly wish to prevent.

Last week, the Test cricket match between England and Australia at Lord's Cricket Ground was briefly suspended by protesters who spread gunpowder linked to the "Just Stop Oil" movement, following similar incidents at the World Snooker Championship and the English Rugby final.

Sally Bolton, CEO of the All England Club, told reporters at the club shortly before play began, "As we have seen in other sporting events, we cannot guarantee anything, but we are absolutely confident that the measures we have taken are the right ones, and we are ready to deal with something if it happens.”

Bolton added, "Every year we work with the Metropolitan Police and other agencies to review our security arrangements in line with the relevant threat picture. We have definitely raised security levels in areas such as the gates and around the course, through enhanced bag searches, and communicating with people to explain that this might take a little longer.”

Bolton said, "All Wimbledon visitors participating in the tournament expect their bags to be searched, and spectators have been warned that it is not possible to bring paint spray, personal protection sprays, or glue onto the club grounds.”

Bolton confirmed that increased security is not only about the number of people involved, but some of it relates to the type of intelligence we use and the tactics we employ. Part of our security arrangements is a group of so-called behavior detection officers, who will look for things a little different from what they would do in any other year.”

Bolton affirmed that the tournaments are committed to a positive environment and urged spectators to respect the fact that others coming want to watch tennis enjoyably, peacefully, and in a safe environment.”
