Today, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau offered his condolences to the family of another Canadian citizen who was killed in the ongoing war in Lebanon.

The Liberal Prime Minister reiterated Canada's call for a ceasefire in Lebanon and the Palestinian Gaza Strip during his remarks to reporters on the last day of the ASEAN Summit in Vientiane, the capital of Laos.

”My thoughts are with the family of the Canadian who was killed, and with the families of all those who have loved ones in the region affected by the ongoing violence,” Trudeau said.

In Ottawa, Global Affairs stated that Canadian officials are in contact with the family of the Canadian who was killed in Lebanon, but the department did not publicly identify them.

Two other Canadians, Hussein Tabaja (74 years old) and his wife Daad Tabaja (69 years old), were killed in an Israeli airstrike on Lebanon on September 23 while they were driving from the south of the country, where they reside, to the capital, Beirut, as the conflict between Israel and the Iran-backed Lebanese group "Hezbollah" escalated.

Their son Kamal Tabaja, residing in Bahrain, said they were stuck in traffic for hours while trying to escape the Israeli airstrikes on southern Lebanon.

Global Affairs says it has assisted more than 1,050 Canadians and permanent residents and their immediate family members to leave Lebanon on flights chartered by the Canadian government.

The department continues to urge Canadians in Lebanon to leave as soon as possible as long as Beirut International Airport remains operational.

There are currently over 25,000 Canadians in Lebanon registered with the Canadian embassy. However, since registration is not mandatory, the actual number is likely much higher. On September 21, Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly estimated that about 45,000 Canadians were still in Lebanon.
