The United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution yesterday, Tuesday, July 25, 2023, condemning all acts of violence against holy books, considering them a "violation of international law," as the assembly composed of 193 members approved the resolution drafted by Morocco by consensus.

The UN resolution came in the wake of the burning and desecration of many copies of the Quran in several European countries, including the burning of copies of the Quran in Sweden and Denmark, in incidents that sparked international outrage.

Moreover, the text of the resolution stated that the members of the General Assembly "strongly condemn all acts of violence against individuals based on their religion or belief, as well as any such acts directed against their religious symbols, holy books, homes, businesses, properties, schools, cultural centers, or places of worship."

The resolution also called for the condemnation of attacks targeting the Quran, describing them as "acts of religious hatred."

The United Nations Human Rights Council (based in Geneva) condemned on July 12, 2023, the violations that affected the Holy Quran at the end of last month in Sweden, despite Western countries voting against the resolution proposed by the council in this regard.

Additionally, the resolution called for the condemnation of attacks targeting the Quran, describing them as "acts of religious hatred."
