The Syrian President Bashar al-Assad discussed with the Russian President's special envoy to Syria, Alexander Lavrentiev, the file of the return of Syrian refugees and the steps taken in this regard.
The Syrian presidency clarified, during the statement it issued on Tuesday, that the two sides also discussed the ideas and proposals that are being discussed at the Arab and international levels to resolve the file of Syrian refugees.
During the meeting, the Syrian President affirmed that the West, led by the United States, has created a global political and economic crisis that has caused a state of global instability aimed at undermining Russia's position and international presence, using Ukraine as a tool to achieve this goal.
He pointed out that the Western scheme has taken a reverse direction, as the effects of this fabricated crisis by the West have begun to deepen in its countries, socially, economically, and in terms of living conditions.
Asad emphasized that Russia’s steadfastness regarding the West and America is one of the most important factors promising the emergence of a multipolar world, which is what all countries and peoples adhering to international law and defending their sovereignty, independence of decision, and national interests are looking forward to.
For his part, Lavrentiev confirmed that Russia will continue its support for Syria in order to enhance the security and stability of the Syrian people, as well as the cooperation between the two countries to ensure the dignified return of Syrian refugees.
The special envoy highlighted that Russia and Syria are committed to the humanitarian aspect of the Syrian refugee issue and categorically reject all attempts to politicize it.
