The first match of the Canada women's team and the Nigeria women's team in Group B of the 2023 World Cup, held in New Zealand and Australia, ended in a draw without goals, leaving Australia, the host country, at the top of the group at the end of the first round of the group stage.
The match took place at the Melbourne stadium with 21,410 spectators in attendance, where the first half ended without goals, before Canadian player Christine Sinclair missed a penalty kick in the 50th minute, while Nigerian player Deborah Abiodun was sent off in the 8th minute of stoppage time in the second half.
