European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced today, Wednesday, the launch of an investigation regarding the support for electric cars coming from China.
Von der Leyen said before Members of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France, that global markets are filled with cheap Chinese electric cars.
She added that their prices are being artificially maintained through "large government support," which distorts the market in the European Union.
She clarified that the European Union will not tolerate market distortions within the European bloc or outside it.
She stated, "Europe is open to competition, and it is not a race to the bottom."
She added that at the same time, "it is important to maintain lines of communication and dialogue with China."
