Canadian Defense Minister Bill Blair announced his opposition to the deployment of NATO forces in Ukraine, but nevertheless expressed his support for establishing a NATO mission specifically for Ukraine.
During events at the Atlantic Council in Washington on Monday, Blair noted that the NATO mission does not necessarily have to be present on Ukrainian territory, as this matter "is linked to a number of issues".
He added: "There have been discussions about whether we would deploy forces in Ukraine, but frankly, the circumstances would have to be very different from what we see today."
Polish Foreign Minister Radek Sikorski had announced the necessity of establishing a joint NATO mission in Ukraine, indicating that this does not mean NATO's involvement in the conflict in Ukraine.
Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron spoke about the possibility of sending Western forces to Ukraine, but many countries, including the United States, announced their opposition to this idea and confirmed that they would not send their troops to Ukrainian territory.
