The graduation celebrations at the University of Toronto did not prevent students supporting Palestine from expressing their anger through protests on campus.
More invitation ceremonies are scheduled today, Tuesday, at the university after the first graduation ceremony proceeded uninterrupted amidst ongoing pro-Palestinian protests on campus.
Dozens of new graduates crossed the stage in the conference hall to receive their degrees today, with many of them raising Palestinian flags or wearing scarves that bore the word "Palestine."
More than 30 graduation ceremonies are scheduled to take place until June 21, as the university seeks to obtain a court order to end the camp.
The university expressed concern about the impact of the camp on graduation events, but protesters said they do not see how their presence would disrupt the invitation.
Protesters stated that they are determined to stay until the university meets demands related to divesting from companies benefiting from the Israeli attack on Gaza.
The university mentioned in court filings that the camp triggered numerous reports of harassment and hate speech, allegations that protest organizers denied.
