Spanish Prime Minister: What Israel is doing in the Gaza Strip is "unacceptable"

Commented, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, on the brutal Israeli aggression against the people of the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, which resulted in the killing of thousands of civilians, the majority of whom are children and women, saying that what Israel is doing in the Gaza Strip is completely unacceptable, according to Sky News Arabia"

Sánchez added during an interview with the Spanish state-owned TVE channel, on Thursday, "With the images we see and the increasing numbers of children dying, I have serious doubts that Israel is complying with international humanitarian law," and emphasized that the indiscriminate killing of innocent civilians in Gaza, including thousands of children, is absolutely unacceptable."

Israel intends to summon the Spanish ambassador to Tel Aviv to reprimand him after Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said he has "serious doubts" about Israel's adherence to international humanitarian law.

The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, "The Prime Minister instructed Foreign Minister Eli Cohen to summon the ambassador after Sánchez's disgraceful statement."

Last Sunday, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez defended positions he made regarding the Israeli bombing of the Gaza Strip that angered Israel, affirming that it is "not a political issue but a humanitarian one."

On Friday, during a visit to the Rafah crossing from the Egyptian side leading to the Gaza Strip, accompanied by Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo, Sánchez announced that "the killing of innocent civilians indiscriminately (in the Gaza Strip) is absolutely unacceptable."

The two leaders called for a permanent ceasefire in the Strip, and the Belgian Prime Minister also condemned the destruction in Gaza and described it as "unacceptable."

On Friday, Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen summoned the ambassadors of Spain and Belgium in an official protest and accused them of "supporting terrorism."

Sánchez responded to these accusations on Sunday during a meeting of the Socialist Party in Madrid, saying, "Condemning the heinous attacks carried out by a terrorist group like Hamas, and at the same time condemning the indiscriminate killing of Palestinians in Gaza is not a matter of politics or ideology, it is a humanitarian matter."
