The Canadian Food Inspection Agency announced that it has issued a decision to withdraw smoked salmon branded Mowi; due to the possibility of contamination with bacteria that cause food poisoning.

All salmon products in Ontario have already been withdrawn; as they may allow the growth of Clostridium botulinum bacteria.

The smoked salmon was sold during the period between March 27 and April 10.

The agency states that no illnesses related to its consumption have been reported.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency urged anyone who has these aforementioned products to dispose of them, or to return them quickly to the grocery store.

It also mentioned that ongoing investigations could lead to the withdrawal of more products, and that contaminated foods with Clostridium botulinum bacteria may not show signs of spoilage, and their smell may not change, but they could lead to food poisoning.

Among the most prominent symptoms of food poisoning are facial paralysis, drooping eyelids, double vision, and difficulty swallowing or speaking, including slurred speech. Children may be more affected and vulnerable and may be prone to paralysis.
