About 1458 affordable social housing units are scheduled to be built by the end of 2022 in Quebec, announced federal housing minister, Ahmed Hussein, and Quebec's Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, André Laforest on Tuesday.
In total, 79 housing projects will be established throughout the province with a budget of approximately $338 million (of which $128 million will be invested by François Legault's government) under the second agreement between the federal government and the Quebec government regarding the Rapid Housing Initiative, a program aiming to create new affordable housing for individuals and low-income residents.
These housing units will be primarily allocated to women and children victims of domestic or family violence, seniors, Indigenous peoples, individuals experiencing mental health or addiction issues, homeless or those at risk of homelessness, and people with disabilities.
