In 2021, Noah was the most common name given to boys born in Quebec, surpassing Liam and William for the first time, who had been at the top of the list for more than ten years.
In the girls' category, the name Emma regained the title from Léa in 2015, but Olivia had won in 2019 and 2020.
Elias dominated this ranking for ten years, until 2014, except for one year in 2012, when Emma took the crown.
In 2021, there were 521 new Emmas, but there were 519 Olivias – it was a close battle. Alice, Florence, and Charlie were not far from the top ranking.
Among the boys, William was first 14 times from 2002 to 2018. Liam took over in 2019 and 2020, but Noah outdid William in 2021, with 717 times versus 709.
In 2021, Liam dropped from first place to fifth, and Jacob rose from ninth to sixth; Leo, Nathan, Arthur, and Edward remain popular.
The names Zoe and Felix returned to the top ten, replacing Clara and Logan from the list in 2021.
The "most popular names" list is published annually by "Retraite Québec".
