Lawyer Paul Champ, who is leading a potential class action lawsuit against the Freedom Convoy, seeks to expand the list of defendants to include all truck drivers who occupied downtown Ottawa earlier this year, as well as anyone who donated to fund the protest.
If successful, the legal maneuver could hold the owners of nearly 400 trucks and tens of thousands of donors financially responsible for a $300 million share of the damages claimed by the lawsuit.
Lawyer Paul Champ first filed the lawsuit in February, appointing public servant Zishi Li, who lives in downtown Ottawa, as a representative for a class of residents who claim to have suffered from the noise and disruption caused by hundreds of trucks parked in the city's streets for three weeks.
