The White House announced today, Thursday, that US President Joe Biden spoke with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping for more than two hours, in their first call since last March, and this is the fifth time the two presidents have spoken since Biden took office.
This phone conversation comes amid disputes over mutual tariffs between the two sides, in addition to tensions over a possible visit by the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, to Taiwan, which Beijing claims is part of China.
In this context, China's official television confirmed after the telephone call between the two leaders that the Chinese president told Biden regarding Taiwan that Taiwan is an integral part of China and that whoever plays with fire will be burned by it, and that the talks were frank and deep with Biden, urging him to adhere to the One China principle concerning the Taiwan crisis.
