Service has been partially restored on the Toronto Public Library website after a cyber attack that crippled the library's systems for several months.

The library confirmed in a tweet that it is now possible to access some sections of the site, including electronic resources, programs, and branch information.

The library said that other main parts of the site, including user accounts, the library catalog, and the site search function, are still down.

The library said in a post on its website: "Restoring systems and services across over 100 library branches is a complex task." "We are working to ensure full recovery as soon as possible."

Last week, the library confirmed that services are expected to return throughout February after the cyber attack that occurred on October 23, which led to the theft of employees' personal information, including social security numbers and government-issued ID copies.

Toronto Public Library (TPL) users have been unable to reserve books, access their accounts, or use on-site computers since the incident that happened three months ago.

Although book borrowing is still possible, the library is unable to check books back into the library system. As a result, about a dozen off-site trailers have been used to temporarily store returned books until they can process the items electronically. TPL confirmed that a spreadsheet is being used to enter new check-in and check-out details.

TPL said in a social media post, "We care as much as you do about things returning to normal, full recovery is a gradual process, and the end is in sight." "Thank you very much for staying with us.
