Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas demanded today, Saturday, the acceleration of investigations by the International Criminal Court into Israel's targeting of Palestinian civilians, especially children, women, and the elderly, the desecration of hospitals and shelters, the demolition of homes with their residents inside, as well as the ongoing colonial settlement and annexation of lands, ethnic cleansing crimes, and "apartheid."
This came during the Palestinian president's reception at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah of the International Criminal Court Prosecutor Karim Khan, where he briefed him on the overall developments on the Palestinian scene, especially in light of the ongoing Israeli occupation aggression, the crimes of genocide, and ethnic cleansing that continue to be committed in the Gaza Strip, and its continuous violations in the West Bank, including Jerusalem.
Mahmoud Abbas explained that the absence of accountability means encouraging the Israeli occupation to continue committing its crimes against the Palestinian people who have suffered for 75 years from injustice, oppression, racial segregation, and ethnic cleansing.
He also called for a complete halt to the Israeli aggression in order to spare civilians the horrors of bombing, killing, and destruction carried out by the Israeli killing machine, and to double humanitarian aid, and provide water, electricity, and fuel.
The Palestinian president renewed his affirmation of rejecting and preventing the forced displacement of the Palestinian people, whether in the Gaza Strip or in the West Bank, including Jerusalem.
On the other hand, Iraqi President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid emphasized the necessity of taking a serious international stance to stop the Israeli aggression on Gaza.
This came during his meeting today, Saturday, in Expo City, with the Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres, on the sidelines of the United Nations Climate Summit Conference (COP 28) held in the United Arab Emirates, to discuss the latest developments on the international scene and developments at the political, security, and environmental levels.
According to what was reported by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Rashid touched upon the situation in the Gaza Strip and what the Palestinian people are suffering from due to the ongoing Israeli aggression they are subjected to.
Regarding the challenges of climate change issues, the Iraqi president pointed to what his country is suffering from due to the water crisis, as well as the phenomena of desertification, drought, and dust, which negatively affected various aspects of life, noting the important role of the United Nations in supporting international efforts, and taking appropriate measures to limit the water crisis and activate cooperation in the field of transboundary water to ensure fair distribution among riparian countries.
